Default Product Comparison - 06-09-2004 , 02:39 AM

Hi,
One of my leads is a very large pharmaceutical company in south Asia.
They have approximately 400 users that they would like to give access
to a BI solution. These users vary from the upper management to the
sales force. They are at the present moment looking at Proclarity and
I
know the Cognos is a much better platform. They don't have too many
budgetary constraints and are looking to me to supply a features
comparison of Proclarity,Cognos and Business Objects. If any one can
provide me a features comparison of the solutions that both vendors
offer for end user, meaning reporting, analyzing (data mining) and
collaboration, I would be
grateful.
Regards,
Faiz

Hi,

Why not have Panorama 4.0 and Report Portal 1.3 on the short list?

More info + free trials: www.gmsbv.nl

Regards, Marco

Faiz,

Unfortunately I don't know of any freely available feature comparison
reports of the tools of interest to you.

ProClarity is an analysis tool with some reporting functionality, BO's
portfolio reaches from rather static reporting (Crystal Reports) to somewhat
dynamic reporting (BO and WebI) whilst Cognos provides the most
comprehensive product portfolio which covers not only reporting but also
analysis (with its own multidimensional DB) and planning for instance. Just
the integration of the tools need to be considered if you need to implement
several of Cognos' solutions.

The most important step to decide for the right platform and tools though is
to gather your users' requirements. In my opinion a plain feature comparison
doesn't help. You need to know what kind of information in which form
(static, semi-dynamic, dynamic - reports, ad-hoc-reports, analysis,
dashboards) are required. Are there any platform or OS-constraints, how
should the information be distributed? Web-Portal? Integration into the
Web-Portal and many more questions from the required charts to list- or
cross-table reports with accumulated (YTD) and periodical (i.e. monthly)
data. Planning requirements? Legal consolidation? Multi-currency-support and
many more.

If you have gathered your requirements you can more easily look at the
mentioned or alternative solutions.

Kind regards,

Jörg
