Default Orenburg BOARD tool - 03-16-2005 , 09:21 AM

Dear all,
"DM Review" writes of this "Board" OLAP tools
that it's quick and easy but also powerful
for mid-size and small companies.

Has anybody used it succesfully ?

we've just got it and i've not been trained on it so far but at first
site i still prefer cognos.
cognos takes out much of the manual design which this product seems to
need. But its much cheaper.....
What are your thoughts?

A person who used it told me that it's easy to pick data from any other source,
even if it's better from the AS400 environment

Hi Sam,

Board M.I.T. is a combined multidimensional database and frontend in form of
a development environment. Although the Board guys are quite successful with
mid-sized companies (and applications) and even more successful doing
marketing (DM Review, etc.) there are some things to keep in mind:

a) You will be limited to the Board Frontend and the Frontend can just
report from the Board M.I.T database. Decide yourself if this is good for
you. Especially test if its reporting capabilities meet your expectations.
b) Board is a multidimensional database not a relational one which is very
often used for data warehousing. You need to be sure what kind of database
and/or BI architecture you need.
c) Board isn't better nor weaker in loading data from a DB2. It just uses
ODBC. It is weaker than other tools if you look at its transforming
capabilieties (ETL) compared to other solutions. They sell an OEMed ETL tool
for this.
d) Board is a programming-free application development system with strong
capabilities towards data entry (planning), analysis and less towards
reporting
e) available for Windows only
f) limited integration into existing Warehouse-/BI-Infrastruktures

Kind regards,

Joerg
