Default OLAP servers - 12-21-2004 , 05:39 AM

Hi There!

If anybody could give me some
information about OLAP engines besides Oracle, SQL Server, SAS and Sybase
products?
I'm creating client application in Excel and I'd like
to get data from cubes using PovotTable so engine should have OLE DB for
OLAP drivres.

Happy New Year

Regards
sajdor

Other OLAP servers that support OLE DB for OLAP or XML for Analysis
(which both use MDX) include Hyperion Essbase, SAP BW and Applix TM1.

Hmm...
I think that I need something cheaper;-)
I have Access database and Excel client application.
I need some engine to create, implement and process
cubes and then produce some reports. What do you
think about that issue?

sajdor

Realistically, you won't find a full-function OLAP server that's cheaper
than Analysis Services Standard Edition. If you can't afford that, why
not just use the relational PivotTables in Excel?

Is it possible to process Access database
using PivotTable enhancement in Excel like
any multidimensional cube? Do I need OLAP
engine or not? What are differences?

Excel has basic PivotTables for any relational database. There are no
cubes involved and therefore you don't get full cube functionality like
aggregations, MDX calculations, multidimensional security, etc, but you
can do pivots.

I'm thinking about using ContourCube ActiveX as OLAP "procesor".
I found some information about that tool and it's quite nice price for me
