I would like a program (sql, vb etc) which checks whether the the olap
service is running on a particular server. If the service is not
running I would like it to send notificattion of this via email.

anyone seen or have something like this?

you could use shell commands to determine if the service is running then
simply use MAPI calls to send the email. I would think that there are
examples on the web on how to send a mail message in VB using MAPI. Cheers.
