Default Impromptu 7.2 ODBC vs Native Connection - 02-09-2006 , 10:41 AM

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the difference is between
connecting to an Impromptu Catalog through ODBC versus a Native
connection?

When did a "verify" of the catalog while connected through ODBC it
returned with numerous errors on EVERY table.

However, when I did the exact same thing through the native connection
it returned only a few errors on a select few tables.

What is the difference? Are my ODBC drivers outdated? Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

David

Native vs ODBC connections use different methods to qualify the database
name or instance. You may want to try using the "qualify more" and "qualify
less" options which could yield more desirable results.

In the background, when you use ODBC, generic sql 92 syntax is generated for
the database (it could be sql 89 with that version, not positive). Anyways,
when you do a native connection the sql is generated specifically for the
datasource that you are connecting to. The advantage of native has many
reasons, not limited to, db specific functions, speed of data retrieval,
etc.

Hope this helps,
ya
