CubePort™ brings you product choice and leverage.
Now with Analysis Services 2005 Support, CubePort™, The Analytics
Porting Application, is the most comprehensive application available
in the marketplace for customers migrating from Hyperion Essbase to
Microsoft Analysis Services. This wizard/application uses best-
practices to convert most every aspect of a Hyperion Essbase
application to Microsoft Analysis Services.

To assist in using CubePort or enhancements, consulting services are
available from ExoLogic's consulting partners, but are often not
required.
Easier, Faster, Economical:
User Interface wizard drives the end-user through the conversion
process, as well as providing a helpful “verify” steps at the end of
the porting process. Because of the automation aspect, personnel can
stay focused on areas where their skills are best brought to bear,
focusing on improvements in processes instead of technical mapping.
More Automated:
Because the aim of CubePort is to deliver a complete, end-to-end
solution, extracting full objects of the data mart, interpreting them,
then recreating them – the result is an up-and-running data mart.
CubePort encapsulates the experience and know-how of our experienced
team of developers, application consultants, business experts, and
countless hours of testing where the most commonly encountered
mistakes have been eliminated, so it is not necessary to be an expert
in both Essbase and Analysis Services for a successful conversion.
More Reliable Application of Best-Practices:
Our team of developers has incorporated many standard best-practices
into CubePort and consistently applied to the created cubes.
More Consistent and Automated, Fewer Errors:
Automated conversion means each selected cube is converted with the
same consistent result, without the usual bumps that can occur with
manual and/or utility-driven conversions. Because the CubePort is
packaged into a ready-to-use, fully tested, off-the-shelf product, it
will keep the errors and surprises to a minimum.
Built-In Library (User-Defined Function UDF DLL):
A whole host of functions have been created in CubePort’s User Defined
Function (UDF) Library DLL (ExoMDXLib.DLL). This will allow your team
to utilize some in-place knowledge by using familiar function names in
new or existing data marts in the Analysis Services product.
Fast-Track Product Evaluation of Analysis Services:
Organizations that are interested or exploring the possibility of
migrating to Analysis Services from Essbase can use CubePort to
accomplish product evaluation of Analysis Services by minimizing
effort and loss of time. This can help verify the viability of the
Analysis Services product for your organization.
Recoup Investment:
Return Time and Money Spent on Hyperion Essbase:
No need to manually recreate each and every cube in Microsoft Analysis
Services. The original effort gained from building cubes in Essbase
is leveraged by porting those to Analysis Services through CubePort.
By doing so, you extract finely-tuned business logic and ETL processes
into the Microsoft BI product side.
Knowledge Shift: Train Existing Staff with CubePort:
Creation of Comments, Description Properties, UDF Library CubePort is
an ideal training application for internal staff and even Essbase
consultants. Help accelerate some of the heavy shifting of the BI
knowledge by utilizing this porting application as a way of learning
Analysis Services. Because CubePort makes copious comments and fills
description properties in the migrated objects, this application
offers a unique and powerful way of learning the Analysis Services
product. What better way for an Essbase professional to learn the ins
and outs of Analysis Services than to take a familiar existing Essbase
cube and
transition them to another product and stepping through some of the
“Verify” steps (see product details) to examine both the results of
what CubePort did and how it was done? This also lowers the hurdle
posed to many organizations that have heavily invested their
knowledge
into Essbase. A UDF (User-Defined Function) library DLL is included
in the product which provides most of the original “@” and “<”
functions which usually have the same parameters and same behavior and
results as the originals do).
Free Conversions for Previously Converted
Outline or Associated Objects:
No charge for repeated conversions of the same outline if the meta-
data has not changed (for example, changes to formulas, changing
member names, etc), or any change to other associated objects (such as
security, reports, etc).
Learn-Staging:
Window for Learning Analysis Services:
Because the automated conversion allows for repeated conversions
without additional fees (that is, for subsequent conversions of the
same meta-data, or objects tied to the same meta-data, there are no
additional fees charged), the original Essbase data mart may be
modified (multiple times) after the initial conversion, and CubePort
may be re-run against the modified data mart. This includes changes
to objects tied to that same meta-data, like: formula changes,
renaming members/aliases, adding alias tables, modifying the security
model, adding or removing substitution variables, changing the reports
scripts, etc., or other changes that similarly do not affect the meta-
data “footprint”. This kind of flexibility allows the
organization’s developers and end-users to find their marks in the
Analysis Services solution or related front-end product. Without an
automated solution, this type of flexibility will probably not be
feasible or as economical.
