Default Excel and Datawarehouse - 09-22-2005 , 05:22 PM

Hi all,

I recently stumbled upon a utility called Microsoft Cube wizard which lets
you create cubes of data from various sources. So far, i only managed to
create one from an access database; but since we use business objects to
access the datawarehouse, would it be possible for excel to access the
warehouse directly as well, either using the cube wizard or something else?

thanks

toufik

If you were to try one of the decent Excel add-ins onto Microsoft cubes
I think you & your end-users would be impressed.
In my opinion, it's a much better set up in most cases than Business
Objects.

The Excel add-ins to look at are:
MIS Plain - www.misag.com
www.intelligentapps.com
www.xlcubed.com

Remember that Excel is not a soution to build cubes in. Your data
warehouse still needs to be built by a ETL tool.
Post building of the cubes in the data warehouse, there are many
options for reporting - Business Objects being one of them.
If you want to use Excel to report directly against cubes, then atleast
MS has a plug-in for Analysis Services.
