We were planning on using the ESSCMD EXPORT and/or PAREXPORT commands to extract data from several ESSbase databases. We have been told by the administrator of one of the systems that we will not be allowed to perform the exports because the EXPORT command locks the database and blocks all other activity while it is being performed. Is this in fact the case? What other alternatives are there for pulling large amounts of data from ESSbase cubes without negatively impacting the ESSbase systems? It depends on the version of Essbase you are using. Essbase 6.5.4 allows read-only access on databases that are being exported. Should I assume by your comment that prior to 6.5.4, EXPORT block access to the database? Is this also true of PAREXPORT?
