It is coherent or efficient to have a cube for reporting with out
drilling down, only to cross dimension with each other???

This is exactly the question I have, too. Business users usually first want
to have an overview (aggregated) and drill down later in the areas of
interest by following a structure derived from their business like products
or regions. The whole world is hierarchical therefore it is hard to imagine
a BI system that isn't. The only area I see is an operational reporting on
base level data which is being asked for from Business users sometimes, too.
But usually only after having identified some occurences and they need more
detailed data than the data which is stored in the hierarchical structures.
This kind of data usually is order data on an item level.
