I would go with CentOS Linux ... you can install Apache, MYSQL, PHP
right off the bat, mostly configured and ready to go ... all you need
to do is start the services. CentOS is based off of redhat linux, works
very well as a server because it's not updated as often as most other
linux distro's. If you don't like Red Hat Style Linux you can go with
Ubuntu Linux Which is just as easy to install. Ubuntu is a debian
disto. Its all personal preferance.

I do NOT recommend using Windows at all .. if you can help it. Some
Open source software and Apache,MYSQL,PHP in general don't do so well
on windows, and file system paths are a pain because they use different
slashes c:\ where as linux uses /home this makes things very confusing
when working with files.

anyway it's probably worth a look

http://centos.org

Good luck!

Thanks for the advise, I'll take a look into it. When I go through the
MySQL configuration wizzard should I select the "Server Machine" option
or "Dedicated MySQL Server Machine" option if i'm running MySQL, Apache
and PHP on the one server?

Also, if we are running Apache do we still need to have a webserver or
obtain webhosting? I apologise for the questions, although I have used
MySQL and PHP i have never actually set it up or configured them.

Thanks again for the advse, it's very much appreciated.
