I am new with MySql and am having problems with the setup and testing.

I am running Solaris 10 on a Sun Blade 150.

I completed the installation using a binary (v5.0.51) from
SunFreeware.com. I then used most of the initial startup and test
steps on the Sun site (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/unix-
post-installation.html#automatic-start).

When I do a ps -ef | grep mysql I see:
root 1674 702 0 21:33:08 pts/6 0:00 /bin/sh bin/
mysqld_safe --user=mysql --log
mysql 1698 1674 0 21:33:08 pts/6 0:04 /opt/local/mysql/

When I run the mysql-test-run I get:

mysql-test-run: WARNING: Process 1822 died

ERROR: Failed to start master mysqld 0

Aborting: alias failed in default mode.
To continue, re-run with '--force'.
Stopping All Servers

I've tried running the mysql-test-run script with the server running
and without the server running. With the same results in both cases.

However, with the mysqld server running, if I run for example: mysql-
test-run --extern alias analyze it works fine and reports the tests
passed.

I put in a print statement in the mysql-test-run script just before it
starts the server to ensure it is pointing to the correct path for
mysqld, and it does.

I would like to get all the test cases ran, but I've been scratching
my head for a while on this one.

Any help would be appreciated.


I am trying to get a web server up and running with Apache 2.2.6, PHP
5.2.5, and MySql 5. So far I have Apache 2 and PHP talking OK. I
having problems now with getting past this MySql configuration and
test.

I'm wondering if this has to do with SMF shutting down the server that
the test script starts ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Note that I did not install the Perl CSW package, as Perl is already
installed on Solaris. If this was a mistake I apologize, just let me
know. I then ran the following commands to complete the install:
