No. You want to *install* MySQL.

Unlike other "operating systems" Linux has a working package
management. How it is named, depends on the Linux distribution.

So start up the package manager, look for a package named
"MySQL server", select it for installation, acknowledge the
dependencies and go.

Installing foreign (to your Linux distribution) software
packages is for advanced users only. No pun intended

how did you try to install it, and where did you get the packages?
And what distribution are you using?

In my case with debian, its a simple question of clicking on the package
name in synaptic..

Start with your Linux distribution. Almost all of them have package
managers which will install it for you.

If you need help with that, start with your distribution's web site to
see where to get help.

As you don't know much about Linux, I really recommend you go with the version
supplied with your distribution

RedHat/Fedora: yum install mysql mysql-client

Debian/Ubuntu: ap-get install mysql mysql-client

If you use Mandriva, then use yast to install mysql and it's client.

The benefit you get is that you get notifications of when there is a new
version of the mysql and which has been tested and known to work to update
without any higher risk of data loss (always a good thing to do is to make a
backup of the database content before the update).

Dude, as J.O. said, it's dependent on your Distro. But then I wouldn't
expect you to be able to understand that.

Just like you can't figure out how to keep the attributions when you reply.

Only an insecure, raving nincompoop could misapprehend a jocular comment
_not directed at them_ as a disagreement and make a scene about it.

FOAD, imbecile.

Just correcting an idiotic comment by a troll in so that the op doesn't
waste a lot of time trying to do something which will only get him in
deeper trouble.
