Default innobackup failes - 12-14-2010 , 08:58 AM

Hi,

tried meb 3.5 on a MySQL 5.5.7 test installation:

ttt:/opt/mysql/meb-3.5/bin# innobackup --user=ttt --password=tttpw --compress /etc/my.cnf
/raid/mysqlbackup

InnoDB Backup Utility v1.7.2
Copyright (c) 2003, 2010, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All Rights Reserved.

IMPORTANT: Please check that the backup run completes successfully.
**********At the end of a successful backup run innobackup
**********prints "innobackup completed OK!".

innobackup: Using mysql *Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.5.7-rc, for Linux (x86_64) using readline 5.1
mysql: Unknown OS character set 'ISO-8859-15'.
mysql: Switching to the default character set 'latin1'.
innobackup: Using mysql server version 5.5.7-rc-log
innobackup: Using ibbackup version 3.5.1 MySQL Enterprise Backup 3.5.1

innobackup: Created backup directory /raid/mysqlbackup/2010-12-14_15-53-26
101214 15:53:26 *innobackup: Starting mysql with options: *--unbuffered --password=tttpw --user=ttt
101214 15:53:26 *innobackup: Connected to database with mysql child process (pid=1172)
innobackup: Error: mysql error: mysql: Unknown OS character set 'ISO-8859-15'.
mysql: Switching to the default character set 'latin1'.

Any ideas?

kind regards,

Bodo

Subject says: innobackup fails
Body says: only warnings no errors
Questions is: Why is there no succesful backup?

In the backup directory there are files:

backup-my.cnf
mysql-stderr
mysql: Unknown OS character set
mysql: Switching to the default character set 'latin1'
mysql-stdout:
innobackup hello 1
innobackup hello 1

This seems to be an error, and not a warning.

When reading this:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql-enter...nnobackup.html

I understand that 'innobackup' is a perl script to backup your database.

What happens if you try to backup using mysqldump ?

I did not read the complete page, and dont know defferences between
innobackup and mysqldump

The body doesn't say that. Indeed the body says that there is an
error.

The answer to the question is: Because of the error. DUH!

Hi,

tried on a virtual box opensuse 11.3: runs OK with different language settings.

running on a SLES10 64 after several hours of trying different settings of language vars.

Cheers,

Bodo
