Default Hacking/lost/forgotten root password. - 05-26-2011 , 05:46 AM

Hi

I faced this issue once, I forgot the root password and was unable to
recover it and since then I was thinking of how to resolve this issue
and later when I did resolved I thought to post it on my blog so that
others should also benefit from it.

Here is the link : http://wp.me/p1pXSt-k

View and review.

Thanks

FFS, the mysql doco tells you how to do this *as part of the initial
setup*. It's no mystery.

In addition to what Peter said, you don't need to edit any files, and
your method can change with different database releases.

The correct way to do it is documented at
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/...ermissions.htm.

Come on - the OP was trying to contribute something positive...

But while were on the subject, I don't think the method in the blog is the
best way.

This would probably be the definitive way and it does work, because I had to
do it myself the other week.

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/...tml#resetting-
permissions-unix

It's also worth mentioning that on debian/ubuntu systems there is likely an
/etc/mysql/debian.cnf file with a root equivalent user+password that can be
used to reset real root without needing to stop the server (had to do this
too as some joker had disallowed root (AT) localhost (DOT)

Cheers,

Tim

Yes, he was trying to contribute something positive, which is good. He
missed the boat on this one, but you do have to give him credit for
trying to help.
