I've made an install of SQL Server 2008 (evidently its Developer Edition) and also installed SP1. SP1 failed to install the first time and I learned about the Repair function in the Installation Center (the repair worked and then SP1 installed). I have a problem in that the mgmt studio won't start - I get an error "The handle is invalid" and thats it. |

I found one post saying this problem could occur if you have SQL Prompt install, but that appeared to be related to Setup, and not trying to start SSMS. There is a Service Pack 2 out SQL 2008. (Unless you really mean SQL 2008 R2). That could be worth trying. Else I would try to uninstall the tools and reinstall. No reason to touch the engine part, I think. -- Erland Sommarskog, SQL Server MVP, esq...
