I have had SQL Server 2005 Express installed on another system and it appeared when running the Data source configuration wizard. Now, with 2008, it doesn't show up there, nor in the ODBC manager when trying to create a new SQL Server data source. It's getting frustrating, but I don't know what too do. Please advise if you can. |

I tried this and couldn't seem to get it right. I figured out that the SQL Server Browser service wasn't started. I still couldn't start it because, apparently, a failed SQL Server 2008 Express installation was interfering somehow with SQL Server 2005 Express. I further learned that a common fix is to download and install the following: 1- SQLSysClrTypes.msi 2- SharedManagementObjects.msi 3 - sqlncli.msi I was able to install the first two, but the 3rd failed, telling me that "installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system". I'm on Vista64. Why must Vista 64 be so difficult? I tried searching for a 64bit version, but no luck thus far. If you can, please advise. |
