Default new security setting or problem? - 07-13-2010 , 07:07 AM

I am working on another verion of the last database I was trying to
help with.
It is access 2007

I look at the list of tables/forms/queries on the list and its funny I
can not right click on anything to edit it.
I can go to the top of the page and click on design on a form or table
I have open.
The problem is there are several update and make table queries and I
need to edit them not run them.

Is this a security setting, permission or ?

If you created a new database, created (not imported) a couple of tables
and queries, does it do the same thing?

Anything in Startup options that might be disabled? Try enabling
everything for a test, reset afterwards.

I just copied it down to my desktop where I have full control and it
still will not allow me to do it.

I can open a table or a form only by left clicking. Then I can go to
the menu and hit design view.

I can run a query.

There are 3 append queries that I am not going to run until I see what
they are but I can not edit them. Even with full control.

after seeing that I was thinking something was wacked in the trust
center or something like that.

God knows I wish open office had something better than 2007 or go back
to 2003.

============
ps now they want to know how hard it would be to convert all this mess
back to 2003....I told them I didn't do any of it and like my post
last week with all the crap they put in it (that does nothing), you
can't convert back.

If it helps, you can review the SQL for those queries in the Immediate
Window.

? CurrentDb.QueryDefs("YourAppendQueryName").SQL

That really didn't answer my question. Can you create a blank database?
If so, can you then create a table? Then a query? Then right click?

Also, have you gone and checked that you have the most current service
packs and hot fixes for Office?

Also, is it possible that you have the click options set to single and
not dbl-click? In A2003, if set to single, all objects look like
hyperlinks. I can still right click but throwing mud here hoping
something sticks.

Salad I think I have seen it all now.
Just not sure what or why.

All of the 2003 databases work fin.

I took a blank 2003 database on my desktop and then I took all the
stuff in the 2007 database and exported it to the new 2003 database.
I opened the 2003 version and still no right click on anything, no
toolbars(toolbars is on the menu but there is nothing to select. It
won't even show an empty list just says toolbars > (NO LIST HERE)

so as a last resort I made another 2003 database on my desktop and
imported everything from this weird 2003 (from the 2007 version)
There were all kinds of warnings about stuff it could not convert or
import. Pic files that were converted to bmp etc....just message box
after message box.

NOW the FINAL 2003 version works fine.

There are no tool bars, right click does not work in the 2007 version
or the first 2003 version. Doesn't this say that something is whacked
in the 2007 version?

(the reason I am soooooo confused is I am no 2007 expert) I have
worked with 97-2003 for 12 years and avoid 2007 like the plague.
When asked if there was some switch or something that was turned off
or messed up in 2007 I just drew a blank. I looked for 2 hrs and can
not find anything in 2007 (or searching on the net about 2007 and
problems like this) its like this type of thing has never happened.

Went to create so I did not answer without testing.
yes I created a new 2007 database, table and form.
all worked fine.
closed out, reopened and told it to save as 2000-2003 version.
that worked fine.
the only thing I see in 2003 that looks different is the name of
everything underlined?

evertything looks fine.

so I can only think that the database and not my machine is the
problem.

I went to my other machine and saw the exact same things.

I am thinking that the person that made this 2007 database put
everything they could find, like pictures and email, export buttons
and all kinds of crap (none of them do anything) just garbage to make
it look like a 2007 junk database.

I could say a lot more about this person but I won't.

Most likely you have it set to Single-click (thus a hyperlink) instead
of Dbl-Click in ClickOptions under database options.

that was it. Funny I only see this on the database that was exported
from the 2007 version. Then they all show it.
then I set it to double click....export the 2007 version and its back.
how are database settings being exported with the forms and tables?
