Default Migration to Access10 - 03-14-2011 , 01:09 PM

Hi All,

The company I work for is migrating from WindowsXP/AccessXP to
Windows7/Access10 later this year. I have many AccessXP apps out
there and was wondering what issues I'm going to run into with my
apps.

Anybody done this migration?

What issues did you have?

I had heard there may be some issues with custom menubars, it that
true? All my apps have a custom menubar and no toolbar(s)

Does Access10 have a 'convert to' option under Tools like AccessXP
does?

thanks
bobh.

To my surprise, I like Access 2010. I guess I'm getting used to the
ribbon. I am still running an Access 2003 mdb in 2010 with no
problems. You can convert to 2010 format if you want. Custom menubars/
toolbars in 2003 and earlier will not work in 2010, but Access 2010
has a built in ribbon customizing function that should do most
anything you want it to do. Or you can customize the ribbon with some
XML. There are plenty of tutorials online.

If you have any activex controls in your mdb check if they are in
A2010. I have had to make several changes because some controls are no
longer supported. The Common Dialog control is no longer supported.
Also the MS Calendar Control is not supported (not out of the box, at
least - you can install & register it manually if you need it).

What issues you encounter you will be able to work around. I
complained for a few days but I got over it and it actually started to
grow on me.

If you're referring to MSCOMCTL, I had a hell of a job to get it to work, as
I needed the treeview, but if you use the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Mscomctl.ocx in
the 32 bit version of Access - no problem.

I think you mean "I wanted the treeview."

Ah, David, if you'd seen the bodge up I had been forced to make, with an
indented list box, you would have agreed that "needed" was the correct word.

This is what I used:

http://www.mvps.org/access/api/api0001.htm

Works like a charm and no need to worry about user having the right
ocx file on their computer.
