Default Microsoft Jet database engine Stopped during Insert - 03-25-2011 , 09:16 AM

I have a database on my desktop. I have a link to a source data
table. I have a local table with the same structure. I am running an
insert into the local table from the linked table. I get the
following error message:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped to process because you and
another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time."

I tried compatct/repair.
I tried changing from exclusive to shared.
I deleted the local table and re-built.
I re-wrote the query.
I compact/repaired a second time.

I am the only user of the database. Only my database accesses the
linked data because it is department specific.

Anything else I can do to resolve this error?

Do you by any chance have the table open or in use on a form? IF so, you
could be "another user".

What is the source data table? Is it an excel sheet, a text file, an access
table in other database, ...?
