Hello, I am in need of some help concerning hyperlinks.

I have this small database where the "front end" is part of a bigger database
and the actual data is in it's own "back end" file... only one table. There
is one field with a hyperlink so the users can click on it and open a .doc
file.

The problem is the hyperlinks don't seem to be "in sync" with each other (do
not know how else to explain it), I can create the hyperlink in the "back
end" and re-import the table into the front end but even though the link
works in the "back end", it won't on the form the user's will be working with.
I can delete the link in the "front end" and recreate so it will work in the
front end, but once I load the front end on muliple machines and know the
path exactly... it will be cumbersome to have to go to each separate machine
and create the hyperlinks. Also, the "front end" part will be installed on
machines without Access so I am not sure if it would even be possible to fix
the hyperlinks.

What I need to be able to do is create or fix the hyperlinks in the "back
end" and have them work for the "front ends".

I hope this makes sense of my problem and what I am asking... if anyone has
any experience with this and can help in any way it would be much appreciated.

Windows 2000 right now, but will be upgrading to XP soon

Ok, so once again I finally give in and ask for help, then end up finding the

Hello, Ok great idea sorry about that..

By doing a little more digging into the MS Access help system and typing in
"Hyperlink Troubleshooting". I found the following suggestion:

(This is a copy and paste direct from the Access Help, I hope I am Ok in

Set a hyperlink base for an Access file

You can set the path of the relative links (relative link: When a hyperlink
uses a path based on a relative link, you can move the file that contains the
hyperlink and the hyperlink destination without breaking the hyperlink. Move
the file that contains the hyperlink and its destination together.) in a
Microsoft Access file (Microsoft Access file: An Access database or Access
project file. An Access database stores database objects and data in an .mdb
file. A project file doesn't contain data and is used to connect to a
Microsoft SQL Server database.) by setting the HyperlinkBase property.

Open the database you want to set a hyperlink base for.
On the File menu, click Database Properties, and then click the Summary tab.
In the Hyperlink base box, type the path of the relative link you want to use
for all the hyperlinks you create in this database. The path may point to a
location on your hard drive, a network drive, an intranet (intranet: A
network within an organization that uses Internet technologies (such as the
HTTP or FTP protocol). By using hyperlinks, you can explore objects,
documents, pages, and other destinations on the intranet.) or the Internet
(Internet: A worldwide network of thousands of smaller computer networks and
millions of commercial, educational, government, and personal computers. The
Internet is like an electronic city with virtual libraries, stores, art

All I had to do was be sure both the "front end" and the "back end" hyperlink
base were set to the SAME relative path. It has worked so far of course on
my machine my next step is to test it on the laptop I am using as a test
machine, which I un-installed Access on for my previous install test.

Once I test this I will come back here and share the results.
