Default How to get run time Applications? - 07-22-2009 , 03:21 PM

Folks -

Pardon me if this is an FAQ or something really weird. I have been
stumped in this area for one year and I have no where else to ask
immediately

I have Visual Studio 2005 on a Windows XP pro machine SP3 along with
MS office with Access. I have been going thru the loops of setting
the machine up so I can produce runtime applications of what I
develop. This is pretty close to what I did long ago when I got my
old PC set up ( it was an NT Box )

I have followed the directions I think that microsoft has on its
webbsite, but no results.

How do you do this? Please help.

"...The Access 2003 Developer Extensions is not available as a
stand-alone product, but is included in your Microsoft Developer Network
(MSDN) Universal subscription, if you have one. The Access 2003
Developer Extensions also ships with the Microsoft Visual Studio® Tools
for the Microsoft Office System — a suite of tools that provide
technologies that help you build the next generation of solutions for
the Microsoft Office System."

I believe the Microsoft Visual Studio® Tools for the Microsoft Office
System is different than Visual Studio 2005.

Nice to know you folks recommended the same web page I used. Please
continue. I have made eight separate attempts so far to no success.

So I looked over that page. The link to buying visual studio tools
for the microsoft office system. The link currently leads to a offer
to buy Visual Studio for 2008. I am trying to stay with Office 2003
for now. So what I did was cut over to google and searched on the
following text string: Visual Studio tools for the microsoft office
system.

You get a lot of hits, so I tightened up my search uing the text 2003

I found this link to be useful: support.microsoft.com/kb/828087

Okay folks - so far does this sound right?

The (free) Access 2007 Runtime will, I believe, execute an Access 2003
database. As I have not used it, I can't give you the details, but that's
where I'd look first. You may be able to get a copy in the used-software
market of the Access 2003 runtime, if you really feel that is what you need.

Some have said that you have to have a copy of Access 2007 to obtain the
Access 2007 runtime, but I've heard others debate whether that is so. Even
if you do, then that is still likely to be the least-expensive solution.

Do some searching of the Microsoft site for Access 2007 Runtime, if someone
doesn't pop in and give you the link.

Correct. Actually it executes A2000 MDEs just fine. I've tested that.

There's a trick to minimizing/eliminating the O2007 ribbon in the A2007 runtime for
A2003 and earlier MDEs. Regretfully I forget exactly what it is now. I should've
documented that better as I was working on it.

To obtain no, you don't need the A2007 runtime. Your users can download it directly
and install it. But if you want to make an A2007 install package then you will need
to have a retail copy of A2007.
