Gartner commented that Yellowfin’s Mobile BI platform “delivers native
applications for iOS and Android tablets and smartphones” and that it
is included “out of the box with Yellowfin’s BI platform, with no
additional cost for existing users.”
The report noted the interactivity of Yellowfin’s mobile platform,
including its ability to sort, drill, comment on and email reports, as
well as receive alerts, collaborate and utilize mapping capabilities
the same as the desktop version “with no additional authoring effort.”
Gartner stated that Yellowfin’s native mobile applications “offer the
capability to save favorite reports, and access subscribed
information. They also deliver a mobile-oriented report mode with
KPIs, trendlines, target and actual values and visual semaphores
reporting performance.”
The report also referenced Yellowfin’s new soon-to-be-released
application for the iPad, which “will support new features like
offline mode exploration and enhanced layouts. It will also be able to
run on browsers without JavaScript capabilities, broadening the list
of supported devices.”
Yellowfin CEO, Glen Rabie, said that it was “fantastic” to receive
acknowledgement for “significant” product research and development
over the past 18 months.
“We’re delighted to have our mobile offering acknowledged as the world-
class product that it is,” said Rabie. “We’re particularly excited
because Yellowfin’s new iPad application – to be released within the
coming month – will see us firmly cement our position at the forefront
of Mobile Business Intelligence.”
Yellowfin Principal Mobile Application Engineer, Peter Damen, said
that Yellowfin’s new application for the iPad would change the way
people think about viewing, sharing and interacting with business
data.
“Yellowfin’s strategic direction for Mobile BI is centered on enabling
report consumers to interact with business information as they would
their favorite online magazines or networking sites,” said Damen.
“It’s all about making Mobile BI as fun, consumer-oriented and easy as
possible.”
The Gartner report compared the shift towards Mobile BI for
communication of enterprise data, to the advent of the Internet for
the distribution of business information, suggesting that Mobile BI is
set to become a genuine “alternative to desktop-based BI.” |
