Individual.net isn't free, but $16.00/year is close enough for
me. Been using it for over five years and find it both
comprehensive and reliable enough for my use.

That's what I've been using too.

Any thoughts on a decent Newsreader.
Outlook Express was fine for me in the past, but it can't be used with
Windows 7. I currently use Newsman Pro, but am not wild about it.

I'm still on Win XP and mostly use OE; Thunderbird works but I've never
gotten used to the differences from OE.

I have always used Forte's "Agent" - both for email and NGs.
Started with the freebie version, then paid for the bigger
version. http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php

It offers "Text-Only" and "HTML" modes.

My rationale at the time was that text-only was safer. OTOH,
thousands (if not millions...) of people all over the world use
Outlook Express with no complaints.

But I am habituated to Agent and it does what I want.....

I should add that I have installed Thunderbird on the wife's
laptop and it looks pretty good to me. Certainly the price is
right.

The only place I would fault Agent is for over-LAN operations. If
you keep Agent's databases out there on al LAN drive and
something hiccups, the databases often get corrupted. Bottom
line, I always keep them local on the same PC that's running
Agent.

I have been using Windows Live Mail, but the last update has made a mess of
it. Right now it is not downloading new postings.
