Default Delete Label of TextBoxes in Access 2007 REPORT - 10-13-2010 , 02:43 PM

Hi -

I have a report and I want to delete some of the labels of the Fields
(textboxes) on the report. I can only seem to be able to delete the
entire textbox and label - not just the label.

I'd like to be able to put one field underneath another field and only
print the label for one of the fields - and edit its contents.

I can't seem to figure this out!

I'm in 2007, but this is my first try with 2007. (I'd rather be using
2000!)

Thanks -
Sara

I think that might be because you are in Layout view. If
so, switch to Design view and try to delete the label there.

There must be some sort of option I don't see. I am in Design View
and cannot "separate" the label from the data. Even if I try to make
the Label for one field smaller, I end up making ALL labels smaller.

And I see a dotted line around the label AND the field. I suspect
this is really simple, but I'm just not seeing it!

Are you sure you are in design view? If you close the form,
then right click on the form in the objects pane and select
Design View, do you still have the same problem?

in design view, click the label, you'll see little boxes appear in the
four corners of the label
point to one of these, right click and cut
now right click and paste, this will be the label back on the form in
an 'unassociated' label

I do not see the "little boxes" in the four corners of the label. I
see "handles" in the middle only - and the label is outlined in a
thick orange and the label and data are outlined in a dashed thin
black line.

I tried adding a new Text Box and I put it in the Detail Section. In
The DETAIL section, I could just delete the label. But once I put it
in the Page Header section, the behavior is identical to all my other
fields - and I cannot delete the Label. When I right click on the
label, and choose "Cut", the label AND field are removed from the
report.

Is there some option somewhere that I should set? This seems such a
little thing to be stopping me dead in my tracks!

Maybe I misunderstood, but if not, here is my take on it.
I think that your controls on the report may be aligned to "Stacked"
or in "Tabular" format.

For Stacked--Select the field you do not want stacked and click
"Remove" on the Control Layout Section of the Arrange tab (You have to
be in design view) Then, when you select the control and label, each
will have a brown "handle" in the upper left hand corner. You can
select the control and label and move them each separately. Also, you
can select the label without its associated control and delete it from
your report.

For Tabular--Do the same thing to remove the control layout.
OR-- If you want to keep the control in the same place, then you can
select the label and go to properties and change the Visible property
to No.

Hope that helps.

At last, I think I'm there! I have played with this - with your hints
- and I think I've got what I need now. Boy, was that frustrating!
And I have the feeling that this is going to strangle me for a while
yet - until I've done enough reports in 2007 to be comfortable with it
and to remember all these little things.

MANY thanks!

Sara
