Default database does not start after compacting - 09-09-2011 , 10:24 AM

Hi,

on one computer compacting a mde, on close or manual, does not work.
The next time the application won't start any more.
With a fresh copy the application works well again, but it is
apparently ruined when an attempt to compact it is done.
The application (with compacting) works well on all other computers.
Also on an identical machine.
On the faulty machine Access is uninstalled and the reinstalled, but
to no avail.

- What could be the cause?
- What happens precisely during compacting?

Thanks

Michiel

Hi Michiel,
Your database is likey corrupted. Try this:
- create a new, blank database.
- import all database objects from your database to this new one.
- Set VBA References to those of original database, and compile the
code (only necessary if orginal database has code).

What version of Access, and what Service Pack has been applied, on each
machine? You'll find that information in the Help | About Microsoft Access
dialog.

Thanks for the input, I have solved it: it had to do with the order of
the libraries in the reference list. So by telling exactly wherefrom
to take what, it was solved.
I'm happy it is solved, but I am puzzled how it can be that one
machine has a different idea about the order. What actions can have
caused this difference?

Access 2007, all updates applied, on XP.

(btw milewskp: it is about mde. Your solution applies to mdb. But
thanks anyway.)

Position of references in the list can be manually changed, and may be
affected by other factors (exact what, I am not certain, but would guess it
might have to do with the chronlogical order in which software is installed,
or added to the reference list).
