Default Cannot Open some mdb's by double clicking - Nothing happens - 01-27-2009 , 01:05 PM

Am in I.T. & experienced with Access devel. but am stumped on this:
Starting some weeks ago, am encountering Access v2000 MDB's that I
cannot double click to open them (the mdb files). Nothing happens
after clicking. I try "Open With" and choose ACCESS and still
nothing. A work around is I am able to open an Access session, then
can open the mdb from the FILE, OPEN menu. A common thread perhaps is
they are MDB's on a shared network drive at work, are open to others
when this happens (An LDB file exists showing this). I reboot this PC
3 times a week.
Thanks for any suggestions

I have an update to this: My PC ID shows in the ldb file for these
MDB's though I do not have any mdb open. This may be a cause. I just
had the two other users close such an mdb, the LDB file went away, and
I could then open it with a dbl click. Now its a qstn on if the LDB
file is unreliable in keeping PC ID's of users that are not using the
MDB.

I Occasionall get this, and you can't delete the ldb file. Some sort of
message that it is in use.
Rather that reboot the computer and then deleting the ldb file, I take a
chance, use Windows Task Manager, ensure that it does not appear on the
Applications Tab, find on the Processes Tab that Access is running and end
the process. Bad practice I know, but so far I have got away with it.

I await a lambasting from the Access gurus
