Default Cannot open a database created with a previous version of your application - 05-09-2011 , 08:22 PM

I have an Access 2000 front end mde in use on hundreds of PCs
(separate clients, mostly single users, some LANs). This is opened by
all versions of Access from 2000 to 2010, retail or runtime. Clients
with Access 97 or 97 runtime open an Access 97 version of the same
mde. Because of the various versions, the backends are all Access 97
files, containing only tables.

One client is getting the message "Cannot open a database created with
a previous version of your application." intermittently when using the
application in Access 2007 or 2010 runtime, and now 2010 retail. The
front end works fine, as does the back end some of the time, but not
all the time. He has tried the solution in MSKB310937 to no avail. He
has tried individually the 2007 and 2010 runtimes, and now the 2010
retail Access. He has Office 2007 on Win 7.

There are other intermittent errors too such as "Unrecognised database
format" when opening a 97 back end, that the front end can open at
other times. Also, "Property not found" referring to a custom table
property in a back end table.

Interestingly, the client uninstalled all versions of Access and my
app. He then installed Access 2010 retail and my app and everything
worked perfectly. Then he rebooted the PC and all the errors came
back.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like incomplete installations of Access. If he's got multiple
versions installed, he should run a repair on the one he wants to
use, then run the app and see if it works.
