When you check out the property sheet for most photographs in Windows
Exploder, you will see fields like:

f-stop
exposure time
ISO speed
Focal Length
Max aperature

.... etc.

Is there a way to glean and display that info on a form or report?
A windows API, perhaps?

What I'm working on is a database of sample images as a visual "shoot list",
and having that info might make setting up the shot a little quicker.

Hopefully it's easy and quick to implement, as my daughter's wedding is this
Saturday. No Pressure! LOL

That being said, if you are dead set on building your own tool,
look at http://www.exif.org/ for information on EXIF data.
I just Googled EXIF and VB and found this:

ing_EXIF_and_Other_Image_Properties/article.asp

....but that's based on an external DLL and type library. If you are
willing to introduce those outside dependencies, it looks like an
extremely easy way to implement EXIF support.

Thanks Tom and David, and you're right ... I may have been trying to
re-invent the wheel.
Maybe you don't need to re-invent the wheel, but have to make some
translations instead.

Swiss developer Guido Studer has created a sample database, that you can
find here:

http://www.g-st.ch/privat/freeware/jpeginfo.html

The disadvantage might be the German language, but I guess you know a
translater tool ....

I have downloaded a free trial of Photoshop Elements, but haven't
spent much time with it yet.
Is it just a scaled down version of Photoshop? (I guess I'll find
that out when I get a chance to get into it.)
I don't know how it relates to Photoshop, but I "auditioned" it a
few months ago in behalf of a client and I found it to be bloated,
slow and horridly difficult to understand. Perhaps for someone who
already uses Photoshop, it's fine, but I thought it was a massive
steaming pile of crap.

For the client, we settled on Irfanview. It has several quirks (such
as odd default behaviors for saving) but is also pretty nice with a
lot of good features. Both the client and me keep around our
10-year-old version of PaintShop Pro for when we can't quite get
Irfanview to do exactly what we want.

I don't know if this helps, but in Adobe Photo Elements 2.0 the
catalog .PSA files were actually Access database files. You could
rename the extension to MDB and have access to all the photo data that
you'd see in the catalog. I have no idea if this works for newer
versions.

thanks for that pointer, I'm impressed.

I've found a couple of other files you can do this for.. like MS
Project files (MPP is it) can do that as well, right?
