I work for a company where I've built an Access database system that's used for budget and forecast reporting. Now, this company is at the point where they're ready (or getting ready) to go to a forecasting tool, such as SBase, Hyperion, etc. My question is this: My title is "Database Analyst". I'm not an analyst...I'm a developer. I've been doing this specifice Access work for about a year and in general a total of about four years. I would be taking on this upgrade project, and then being a major part of the end product. What would a good job title be for this and, more importantly, looking ahead? Database Manager, Project Manager, DBA...I wan't to keep building applications using Access, Excel and MS SQL. Even though I'm in finance doing IT functions, I'm definitely not a finance person---not why I was hired. I just don't have any good ideas for a title that would reflect my wants to oversee the project and continue developing...and make money. I currently make less than 50K, which is below the starting range for my current position/title. Thanks for any advice... |

DBA sounds fitting. DBA's often have to code and so they develop. Of course there are DBA's that don't code at all. My favorite title is "Jack of all trades, master of none". ;-) |

I can re-count occasional instances where 'wrangler' could be replaced with 'mangler'!! |
