Default Access database performance unusable over network on HP - 11-11-2011 , 12:45 AM

I have a Access database - front end/back end set up. One of my
clients has just set it up to run on a local area network using a
wired connection between a Win 7 Vaio laptop, and Win 7 HP desktop
(new). The speed of the connection is agonisingly slow in either
direction, despite other applications running normally. Such as 5 min
to open a table. The application works perfectly on many other
networks. Initially I thought this was the HP security problem
described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2397391, which I have
encountered before and fixed. However, after removing virtually all
the HP software on the PC, the problem persists. The PC has a touch
screen. Any suggestions, other than buying a non-HP PC? Both PCs use
Trend Micro antivirus, but I'm pretty sure this is not the problem.

Is the front end on the workstation that is executing it, if not put a copy
of the FE on each workstation?

Is the antivirus scanning MDB or LDB files, if so add MDB and LDB to the
ignore list.

Hum, I would check out Tony's FAQ here:

suggestions and things to check range from using a persistent connection (#1
on my list to try),
and even watching out for a default printer that is a network printer and
not available.

A linked table pointing to a non existing back end also can cause this on
some machines, but the same application on other computers is un-affected.

The list of ideas and things to check is here:

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/performancefaq.htm

Work you way though the above list, one of them should fix your issues.
