Default Access 2003 runtime: Command line parameters? - 01-28-2009 , 04:21 AM

I have just tried out the A2003 run-time for the first time and it seems
that the
/Wrkgrp and /ini command line parameters are being ignored.

Is this a "feature" of the run time?

Thanks

They should work just fine. Here is a example I use for the runtime:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE"
"c:\program files\RidesXP\RidesXP.mde"
/wrkgrp "c:\Program Files\RidesXP\Rides.mdw"
/User "RidesAdmin" /pwd "password" /runtime

A few things about the above. The above shortcut would be all one line (with
a space between each section).

/runtime

The above is not needed, but by placing it in your shortcut it does several
things:

The access icon will not display (even for a Secord or so) when you specify
your own application icon. If you don't use the /runtime switch, you see the
access icon for some time until the application loads and the one you
specified for your application loads

With /runtime switch you don't have to disable the shift key by-pass. (in
other words, holding down shift key during startup is ignored.

The above even helps more when your application is installed to machines
that has the full version of ms-access. If you don't include /runtime, then
your non custom menus etc can be seen during startup, and worse the person
can hold down shift key to by-pass your startup options. So, /runtime is
recommended...

So, when you build a shortcut, you have to include the path to
msaccess.exe...

That is good news. Must be doing something wrong here - will try again.

Thank you for your detailed notes - much appreciated.

Your shortcut is to the executable MSAccess.exe right? A common mistake
is to try command line parameters on a shortcut to an Access file. That
doesn't work. The shortcut has to be to Access itself with the file to
open as one of the parameters.

That is probably the cause of the problem. I have forwarded you comment
and that of Albert to the "complainant" and hopefully that will sort it.
I will report back.
