Default Acc97 to Acc2007 conversion - 04-15-2010 , 09:43 AM

Hi,

I'm in the process of converting an application from Acc97 to Acc2007,
from the mdb format to the accdb format. The app consists of several
mdb files and for a couple of them, when I attempt to do the
conversion, I get the message....

"The database cannot be opened because the VBA project contained in it
cannot be read. The database can only be opened if the VBA Project is
first deleted, etc."

I'm given the option to proceed, which would delete the so-called "VBA
project", or to cancel. I have cancelled so far, at which point
Access seems to do some sort of conversion, but I haven't inventoried
all of the objects to see that might be missing.

I've seen this error message in other discussion threads in regards to
it showing up when some users attempt to access the database, but so
far haven't seen any in relation to a conversion such as mine.

Any thoughts as to what this message is trying to tell me, other than
"why are you converting to Acc2007"? :-)

Thanks.

Ron

If you still have Access 97 installed somewhere, use the old version to run
through this recovery sequence:
http://allenbrowne.com/recover.html

Then create a new database in Access 2007, and *import* everything rather
than asking it to convert the database.

For general hints on adapting to Access 2007, see:

There's a separate page on converting up from Access 97:

Hi Allen,

Thanks for the information. Actually, I was reading back through your
conversion writeups last night and was going to go the "blank database/
import objects" route today. I knew that that was there; I was just
trying to figure out why that error message was popping up; curiosity,
if nothing else.

In the bigger picture, thanks for all of the information provided on
your website. I've browsed through quite a bit of it. It has been
gigantically helpful.

Thanks again and have a good day.

Ron
