Default 2 Databases open at the same time - 10-15-2011 , 12:38 PM

I have a single front end database, and a number of alternative BE databases
that can be linked in; call them BE1.AccDb and BE2.AccDb.

I then open a second copy of the FE database (FE2.AccDb).

If I then link the tables from BE1.AccDb to FE1.AccDb, those tables also show
up in FE2.AccDb.

I had assumed that the 2 FE databases would work entirely separately. Am I
missing something as there are occasions where it would be handy 2 have both
databases open. There are a number of people common to both BEs and it would
be handy to copy and paste between them

Thanks for any ideas

Phil

Partiall solved it.
If I copy the FE database (FE.AccDb) and call it by a different name like
FEX.AccDb, then there appears no problem. Access seems to get confused if the
same FE is opened in 2 different sessions of Access

I open 2 FE with the same name but different locations when updating or
testing and have not seen that. Are you sure you were not opening the same
FE file?

Yes Ron, it is the same database, but I assumed the 2 instances would be
independant. Obviously I was wrong.

Thanks
