Well I'm sure there was a time they considered 'VISTA' a visionary OS over XP.
Isn't that what VISTA stands for ?

According to the Gartner Magic Quadrant report, MySQL is more "visionary" than Ingres:
http://blogs.technet.com/dataplatfor...r/default.aspx.

I am sure Gartner is privy to the confidential plans of all the participants, and this report is limited to data warehousing, but I will still be fascinated to learn that Sun even has a vision for MySQL. (It still couldn't explain why they thought MySQL AB (the
company) was worth a squillion dollars though, even at 0% interest.)

True story: I actually once met an Ingres DBA "a-clothed all in leather"
(as the song goes), and I can tell you she was a VERY pretty image. :-)

I assume you are using some special definition of "Open Source" that you
have chosen not to share with us.

I'm just pissed off that I didn't seize the opportunity to use the expression:
'culinary-lingous'

How could I have missed that?

I thought he was using a special definition of "original".

In any case, databases aren't code, and can't be open source. So I
guess the entire statement is meaningless.

I think the wink meant he was kidding, playing on a certain cohort's (and
the press's) unawareness of the history of these things.
