Default system_lock_level - 03-09-2009 , 04:12 AM

Section 14 of the DBA Guide talks about a configuration parameter called
system_lock_level. There is also CBF help text (dbmslklv.hlp)
describing it.

But it isn't set in config.dat nor offered by (V)CBF. Was it omitted by
accident or on purpose?

FWIW, I have it in my 9.2 installation on Linux:

# grep system_lock_level config.dat
ii.esva-suse.dbms.*.system_lock_level: default
ii.esva-suse.dbms.private_db.system_lock_level: default

In ingres/files/dbms.crs I also have an entry:

# grep system_lock_level dbms.crs
ii.$.dbms.$.system_lock_level: "default", VALID
={"table","row","page","default" };

If you don't have the entry in dbms.crs then I don't believe it will
appear in config.dat. Or if your installation is was an upgrade from a
release that did not have this parameter.

Roy,

I have the parameter "system_lock_level" in Ingres 2.6, 9.1.1 and 9.2.0
in both CBF and VCBF under DBMS server parameters

I have it in Section 12 of the DBA guide "Understanding the Locking
System" and that is doc build "ING-92-DBA-01"

Cheers

John

Thanks John, Grant.

I'm looking at 9.2.0 (int.w32/115), which is an old installation
upgraded many times, so I guess Grant's explanation is correct. I
suppose that might also explain why I missed the "upgrade" of
system_maxlocks from 10 to 50.

I guess I have been naive about my expectations for upgrades. :-( I
wonder if I am the only one.
