Hi Roy, c.d.i has traditionally seen a downturn in December with the exception of 2004 where we had bit of a spam attack (it was interesting reading) But it does seem this year everyone is going on holidays a bit sooner. Recently the trend has been about 30% reduction in postings each year. I wonder if that balances against the increase in postings in the forums and other lists. I really do believe less postings means DBAs are having less problems with the new versions of Ingres, and also being easier to set up on Windows instead of the traditional VMS and Unix means we have more DBAs out in the field. From my experience down here, there is a sharp increase in new ingres installations, and the number of technologists exposed to the installation and maintenance. It is easy to install and has very good performance straight out of the box. I provide second level support for over 150 installations and I rarely have to intervene. re pollution. For myself, I agree, I really dont have time to hang around the forums and would much rather a mail or news feed which I can deal with offline. I have been talking to the forum team for over 3 years about how to get a two way feed going without compromising privacy of the members (since OpenROAD users list is a closed list) and also to prevent spam / viruses. Whats a vBulletin thingy? Is it like an RSS feed? |

As well as the lists and forums we've all known about forever, it also shows a number of the engineering mailing lists. I was aware these exist because they sometimes pop up in Google searches so it is very nice to see them openly being advertised. For those of you who detest browser interfaces to forums, and can't sit watching IRC chat all day every day, these should be worth signing up to, especially as the traffic here on c.d.i and info-ingres is tailing off. Now that the Ingres forums are hosted with vBulletin it should be possible to get them to cross-post to info-ingres and hence to c.d.i. In the new year I shall be renewing my campaign for that to happen. (Don't worry OpenROADers; I shall not be asking to pollute your lists with it.) -- Roy UK Ingres User Association Conference 2009 will be on Tuesday June 9, 2009 Go to http://www.iua.org.uk/join to get on the mailing list. _______________________________________________ Info-Ingres mailing list Info-Ingres (AT) kettleriverconsulting (DOT) com http://www.kettleriverconsulting.com...fo/info-ingres |

I could get excited if it had an Ingres backend. |
