the discussion page associated with the MVCC project - 'MVCC - Ingres
Community Wiki' (http://community.ingres.com/wiki/MVCC).

An early version of a design spec and some detail has been posted
there. The developers working on the project would be most interested in
your thoughts on the subject.

In answer to the question. the intention is to allow the user to
configure MVCC or not on a per table basis (in the same way you can
configure locking strategies today), so if you want "manual locking" as
you say, you would turn off MVCC and revert to the current Ingres
locking.
