In this current climate more than ever, customers are trying to cut RDBMS
budget. I'm pretty biased when I say Ingres is the best value for money. Low
price - free. Low maintenance - you just install it and it runs practically
forever. Of course, customers realise they need to pay for
support/maintenance if they want certified product and 24x7 support and free
upgrades.

I'm seeing increased demand for ingres DBA work because there more NEW
sites. The older sites provide basic revenue but they are mostly stable and
things rarely go wrong.

From my limited exposure down under, it seems all the new sites are
commercial.
One of our business partners has installed over 100 new ingres sites in the
last 5 years.
That doesnt equate to 100 new DBA jobs - rather just 1 or 2. But that just
makes the product more attractive.

That's encouraging news. Is it because you or your partner are selling a
software solution that bundles ingres?

Hi Paul,

Christ I'm glad to hear you say this mate.

I'll be looking for a DBA job in Oz in about two years and I'd really
like to see something come up soon just to convince me there is a chance
of leaving Pommie-land behind.

The weather is kiling me.

I don't care if the jobs in Melbourne, Perth or FNQ!

Partners.
Myworkplace - pretty much yes.
Peercore - Ingres (and OpenROAD) are considered part of mission critical
toolset.

But I would say they are both delivering software and services for a broad
range of applications.
Recently developed new software for Plant hire industry is all based around
Ingres.
Both say they have little trouble convincing clients buying into the
technology.
Check out their recent presentations for more info.
