Well at the same time you can end up with left over "permits" in iipermits if having a view on the table,
That ends up being "dropped" because of dropping a column. (Bugfix out today for my found bug 124523 on 9.2.1 - happy new year).
By the way internal reproduced at Ingres on
III 9.2.1 (axp.osf/103) + p13832, II 2.6/0803 (axp.osf/00) + p13228 and II 10.0.0 (int.w32/125)
If later trying to drop the permit according to iipermits select gives an error and regranting as well gives an error.
So always "drop" any dependencies before dropping a column and preferably only for wrong named new columns.

Perhaps a nice procedure which would list all the dependencies ... no particular order.

Similar topic.
I wish there was a warning that a table is part of a view when you drop a table. Maybe later releases do this.

Hi Leandro,
Yes it was a database rule. It had an update(action) clause.

Hi Martin,
May be you can take a look at rules and/or procedures.
What I do in these cases is make a unloaddb ou copydb and search by the column name (or any text to match) in the copy.in file.

Subject: [Info-Ingres] Error in dropping column
Hi All,
When I try to drop a column from a table with: alter table tag_def drop column action restrict\g
I get: E_QE016B ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN RESTRICT: restricted destruction of base
table column cannot proceed as it has one or more dependent objects
which would become abandoned.
The column action is not part of a key nor is it the subject of a constraint.
What catalogs do I need to examine to try and find out what its bitching about?
