Hello,
is this possible? How would I have to tweak the cktmpl.def file? Which
compressing programm could be used (7-zip, RAR etc.)?

Regards
Gerhard

I agree this is very simple and nifty trick (especially in the Oracle
scenario)....It's always the simple things that work best and then you
think "how didn't I think of that".

We use the tinkering of the cktmpl.def with winzip command line add-on.
This works very well but as someone else mentioned no matter what method
you use test the checkpoint AND the rollforward...

One of the easiest ways is to right-click the checkpoint folder and
turn it into a "compressed" folder. I use this method all the time for

Oracle backups/exports, no need to fiddle with any parametrer files
(i.e.
cktmpl.def).

A very good idea, thanks for this. I activated the NTFS on-the-fly-
compression for II_CHECKPOINT folder and its subfolders and played a
little bit around with it. Execution times for ckpdb and rollforwarddb
are roughly the same and disk space saving in II_CHECPOINT is about 75
percent, very nice...
And best of all, no need to tweak the cktmpl.def file which could easily
"break" something.

Juergen, Dejan, Thomas, Mike, thanks for your various hints!

Regards
Gerhard
