Queensland (in Australia) Ingres User Group August Meeting invitation -
07-25-2011
, 11:07 PM
Hi,
The next meeting of the Queensland Ingres User Group will be on
Wednesday 3 August 2011 in the Great Barrier Reef Room, level 3, 400
George St., Brisbane City.
3:45PM for a 4PM start.
Our Speaker for this meeting will be Tony Shellshear of Geological
Data Design.
Tony started evaluating Ingres Vectorwise some 15 to 18 months ago to
address some of the massive dataset problems inherent in geological
and mining analysis, typically dealing with 3D arrays of data from 50
million to one billion cells. Tony tested this data against a few
DBMSes with 100 million rows. There was initial dismay as the queries
that ran 'faultlessly' on the other databases in about two hours
appear to fail on Vectorwise, since they took under a minute. It took
some time (and some suspension of disbelief) to realise that they had
not failed at all. Then 800 million records were tried and this only
gave enough time before finishing for one beer!
Tony is about to start playing the the new Vectorwise 1.6 beta for
Windows. Come along and hear Tony's story!
