We have a 3Tb (3,000GB) Ingres database on HP Itanium and it runs just fine.

Great stuff, that's an impressive price/performance comparison.
I wonder if this benchmark result was available to Gartner before their
recent BI magic quadrant was published, and if not whether Ingres might
have been positioned even more favourably?

(System availability 3/31/11 - is that a hint about 1.5 heading towards
GA?)

No, it's a few months between the briefings and the report. And Gartner
tries very much to focus on verifiable fieled customers rather than
roadmaps or projected benchmarks.
