Default Ingres new features vote - 06-13-2011 , 05:14 AM

At the IUA conference last week Bill Maimone (SVP Worldwide Engineering
for Ingres) ran a "New Features" vote.

It was a plenary session, and it included opportunities for all
delegates to propose and explain desirable new features. The proposals
were briefly explained, possibly with some clarification questions from
the audience and from Bill, then we had a show of hands.

Teresa King took notes throughout and continued to take suggestions
one-on-one after the conclusion of the session, and she has now blogged
about it:

Teresa has also put up a wiki page at:
http://community.ingres.com/wiki/UK_..._Features_Vote

Many thanks to Bill and Teresa for providing one of the many lively and
useful sessions of the day. This was a new feature of the conference
and I think it was a huge success. I hope we'll do more of these in the
future.

It doesn't end at the conference though. You've got to visit the wiki
and help develop the requirements.

There are no promises of course, and it may be that specific requests
will reveal wider issues that may result in more general changes, but I
am certain the participation in the dialogue can only be a good thing.

Thanks Roy,

I've added some comments on that site as well as en extra point on an SQL optimize command that I forgot to mention in the conference.
