Default #ingres IRC logs - 09-16-2009 , 02:30 AM

I think Grant Croker has probably mentioned here that there is a web
page with a log of the #ingres IRC chatter at
http://irc.planetingres.org/index.html

If like me, you are not chained to your desk, real-time IRC is pretty
useless, but the log occasionally gives up some gems. Take a look if
you haven't already.

I think IRC is really useful because people get answers (usually, not
always!) straight away, without delay.

It pleases me to see the channel growing. More and more new people are
joining - a good sign that Ingres community is growing.

That does seem to happen fairly often, it's true. Not that c.d.i. or
the Ingres Forums are all that slow either. I guess it's a matter of
what works for you.

I'm not going to trash IRC; clearly it has its users. I do sometimes
wish the #ingres gene pool were a little deeper and wider, but as I say,
it also offers some gems from time to time. If anyone posts anything
really loopy on it I can always start a thread here (or somewhere).

Just a quick reminder for those who wonder how to join Ingres IRC
channel - irc://irc.freenode.org/ingres . SeaMonkey, Opera and Firefox
with chatzilla plugin should understand this URI without problems.

See http://community.ingres.com/wiki/Ingres_on_IRC for additional
information on connecting including using your web browser as the IRC
client.

For Mac, I use
'Conversation : Home'
which is really nice.

Never did like any of the browser plugins
