Default [Info-Ingres] 9.3 - 10-07-2009 , 08:58 AM

Hello,

looking at the homepage: what can I do with an Ingres Database ? What
is stored in it ? Why is this version only available on Win-stuff ?
Quite disappointed,

JC

Ingres are lowering themselves (unfortunately) to the level of the
masses, who
apparently don't know or haven't learned the difference between
"database" and
"database management system". Ingres 9.3 is a database management
system, not a database. Oh well. Perhaps if we all chant "DBMS" loudly
and frequently enough, the message will get through...

It's definitely going to be released on all of the usual platforms. I
guess
Winders must have been the first out of the QA door, for whatever
reason.
More platforms should follow in a matter of days, not weeks or months.

Karl

I think you flatter the masses. The masses don't usually distinguish
between an application and a database. The number of times I've sat in
meetings and realized only too late that everyone else is talking about
something entirely different than what I thought is quite embarrassing.

I must be getting old.

Oh, I'll heartily (or perhaps wearily) agree with both.

Cheers

Ingres 9.3 is only targeted for Windows and Linux see 'Ingres Roadmap -
Ingres Community Wiki'
(http://community.ingres.com/wiki/Ingres_Roadmap). 32 bit Linux is
expected in the next couple of weeks with 64 bit Linux to follow.

Ingres 10 is the next release that is planned to be released on all
platforms.
