Default I/O monitoring - per host, per host device, x-platform? - 05-25-2010 , 05:51 AM

So. One has a great big SAN. Trying to work out what it's doing internally is difficult, because of course the SAN's capabilities in this respect are rubbish or non-existent. Look at it from a different perspective, then - on each system using the SAN (real and virtual systems), report on total I/O (read & write, preferably), on a time basis with hourly (perhaps) granularity, per-device (from the connected system's perspective), and then work out possible storage conflicts.

With databases (and other S/W) on Windoze, Linux, Solaris, is there a cross-platform tool that you use to do anything similar to the above? What is it? If not, what can be done?
