Default Groundwork is looking for a potential replacement for MySQL - 08-25-2011 , 10:37 AM

From the http://www.gwos.com/ site:

"GroundWork Monitor Enterprise is a real-time availability and
performance monitoring system. It tracks and records availability,
gives you rapid problem notification, and presents trending data and
reports for all of your IT infrastructure, using an enterprise class
portal with customizable dashboards."

They are currently polling for a replacement DBMS to use instead of
MySQL. Ingres is in the poll, with ZERO votes (as I write):
http://www.gwos.com/forums/index.php...ql-replacement

Obviously a poll like this is always going to favour
things-even-inattentive-people-have-heard-of rather things that are a
good fit to their needs, but it seems a shame to let PostgreSQL win by
default, however good it is.

PS: Percona and MariaDB are both on the list. I'm not sure they really
count as alternatives to MySQL, but they're not getting a lot of
traction either.

PPS: I shall soon be free to resume the quarrel I set off last week. I
know you're all looking forward to that. :-)

They were starting with MySQL, so provided they drew up their
short-list of alternatives based on required features (which I admit I
am only assuming), then a bit of market research to discover which would
be the easiest sell seems only prudent.

Another possibility would be to develop their product to be resolutely
DBMS agnostic and leave it to the customer to plug in the engine of
choice, but that would create a support nightmare for them.
