Default FWIW: Oracle has a poor quarter - 03-06-2009 , 07:00 AM

A colleague on the IUA board has drawn this to my attention:

The closing paragraphs entertain the idea that open source offerings
could prosper at Oracle's expense.

I think "worst quarter ever" could apply to an awful lot of companies
currently.

The last paragraph suggests that opensource is " also proving cheaper in
areas considered mission critical.".

Is there really a relationship of this kind?

Often on this very newsgroup people are encouraged to opt for the commercial
version of ingres with support from ingres corp (rather than use the
community editions to run their business), so the real question is - has
adopting an open-source policy resulted in cheaper costs for commercial
ingres adopters?
