Hi all,

has anybody tried out Ingres on those modern non-mechanical "disks"?
What are your experiences?

Regards
Gerhard

We've been using 12 of them in a RAID 0. They're fine.

Looking just a read performance doing analytic queries we're seeing
performance between 2 and 4 times faster than electromechanical disk on
the same system.

Ignoring speed, SSDs are also a lot quieter, cooler and less
power-hungry.

If you are going to do anything write intensive you will probably want
to pay close attention to the different write speeds of SLC SSDs versus
MLC SSDs. The latter are about 25% slower but a lot cheaper. There is
a smaller difference in read performance.
