Just checking if anyone still uses Ingres?
Why? Certainly would like to find another contract, full time or part
time position in programming. Can even do this remotely using a secure
server like TTSSH and TermPro.

Lots of people still use Ingres, it's still being actively sold (especially
as a repository for various CA apps), and I can attest that it's still
receiving very significant development attention.

Can't help you with the contract search, though.

Unfortunately very few people use Ingres nowadays.
Everyone I know uses Oracle.

We most definitely still use Ingres and plan to do so for the foreseeable
future.
We also use Oracle, SQL Server and DB2, but Ingres is still the biggest.

The current corporate standard is Oracle. However, we're sticking with
Ingres because:-

1. Most in-house mission critical applications use it.
2. Excellent performance.
3. Very reasonable cost of ownership.
4. Conversion would be very expensive, risky and offer no added value.

The Irish Revenue Commissioners, with approximately 7,000 employees, continue
to use and deploy 2-tier, 3-tier and web Ingres applications. The vast
majority of our applications use Ingres. I would concur with David Richards
reasons for continuing to use Ingres.

Ditto.
Dave's email is our situation too. Almost word for word except
for DB2.

Great I am now reassured that Ingres still exists (outside of CA) ,
the only problem is finding work, as the creator of the thread pointed
out.

CA have a stealth attitude to promoting Ingres, one large reason why
its not heard of.

Checking on www.jobserve.com (yes, I know the group doesn't like statistics
based on web agencies), I find 4 permanent ingres positions and 13 contract
positions. Before September 11th it was 46 contract and 144 permanent.

I believe bin laden has affected (ingres) projects more than most other
factors.
